Women's Half (Joburg)
Sunday, 29 August 2027 · St Vincent School for the Deaf, Melrose, Johannesburg, Gauteng
Race info
Route
The full route will be revealed closer to race day, as with previous editions. Expect a closed, marshalled road route through the northern suburbs, finishing back at the start venue — the same general course area as the 2026 Joburg edition.
Start venue
St Vincent School for the Deaf, Melrose — 42 Jellicoe Avenue (corner of Tottenham Avenue and Jellicoe Lane), Melrose, Johannesburg. Start times: 21.1km 07:00, 10km 07:30, 5km 08:00. Race day is Sunday 29 August 2027.
Parking
On-street parking near the venue is limited. Nearby options used for previous editions: The Zone @ Rosebank, Rosebank Mall, Oxford Parks, and Virgin Active Rosebank. Carpooling or e-hailing is recommended.
Cut-off times
Cut-off times, measured from your gun start: 21.1km — 3 hours 30 minutes. 10km — 2 hours. 5km — 1 hour 30 minutes. The cut-offs are generous on purpose — you can walk a good part of the course and still finish comfortably within the time.
Aid stations & refreshments
Water points on route for every distance, plus a finish-line hydration station. Exact station count and spacing confirmed closer to race day.
What to bring
For race-number collection: your ID or driver's licence and proof of entry. For race day: a light layer for the cool start, sunscreen, and your own hydration/nutrition if you use anything beyond the official water points.
Prohibited items
No earphones or headphones. No pets, cyclists, or unauthorised devices on the route. No seconding or unauthorised assistance — no running alongside, no handovers from vehicles; use official water points only. No littering — use bins and designated litter zones. Race numbers are personal and non-transferable — no swapping, selling, or running under someone else's bib.
Weather
Late August in Johannesburg is typically cold and dry at a 07:00 start, warming up quickly once the sun is up. Rain is unlikely this time of year. Dress warm for the start line and bring a layer you can drop at bag drop before you run.
Medical support
Medical support on route and at the finish, provided by qualified event medical staff.
Baggage
Bag drop is available at the venue on race morning — check your kit in before your start and collect it after you finish.
Spectators
Women's Half is a women-only race — entry and on-route participation are open to women only, across all distances. Race day itself is for everyone: cheer squads, family, friends, volunteers, coaches, photographers, and supporters of all genders are warmly welcome to be part of the celebration.
Prize-giving
The 21.1km and 10km carry prize money for eligible women athletes; the 5km does not. Prize money is paid only after results are verified (timing, route compliance, and — where applicable — anti-doping checks) and all eligibility requirements are met. One prize per athlete (the highest-value prize they qualify for) — no double-dipping across categories. Protests must be submitted in writing to the Race Referee, typically within 30 minutes of provisional results being posted. Full prize policy available from the organiser on request.
Race-day contact
entries@womenshalf.co.za — also the contact for corporate/team entries (celebrate and empower the women in your organisation by entering a team together).
Frequently asked questions
Can men enter Women's Half?
No — entries and on-route participation are open to women only, across all three distances. Men and people of all genders are warmly welcome as spectators, volunteers, and support crew on race day.
Do I need an ASA licence to enter?
No. If you're already ASA-licensed through a club, your permanent licence is accepted at no extra charge. If you're not licensed, a one-day temporary licence is required for the 10km (R60) and 21.1km (R70) — the 5km doesn't require one.
Is there prize money?
Yes — the 21.1km and 10km carry prize money for eligible women athletes, subject to result verification and the published prize policy. See Prize-giving below for the full rules.
What's the minimum age for each distance?
All three distances — 5km, 10km, and 21.1km — are open to entrants aged 14 and up.
Can I get a refund if I can't run?
Entry fees are non-refundable except where the organiser explicitly approves a refund in writing. If you can't run for medical reasons, a deferral or credit is the preferred option — contact entries@womenshalf.co.za before race day.
Is my race number transferable?
No — race numbers are personal and non-transferable. No swapping, selling, or running under someone else's bib.
